What Rechargeable Batteries Regulated By IEC?

Shenzhen Sinoli Electronic Co.,Ltd | Updated: Nov 18, 2018

What is the identification method of rechargeable batteries regulated by IEC?

According to the IEC standard, the identification of Ni MH battery consists of 5 parts.

01) battery types: HF and HR indicate Ni MH batteries.

02) Battery size data: Including the diameter, height, height, width, thickness and value of circular batteries separated by a slash bar in mm.

03) discharge characteristic symbol: L indicates that the appropriate discharge current rate is within 0.5C.

M indicates that the suitable discharge current is within 0.5-3.5C.

H indicates that the suitable discharge current is within 3.5-7.0C.

X indicates that the battery can operate at 7C-15C high discharge current.

04) high temperature battery symbol: T

05) Battery connector: CF represents connector-free, HH represents connector for battery pull-in series, and HB represents connector for battery belt parallel series connection.

For example, HF18/07/49 is a square nickel hydrogen battery with a width of 18mm, a thickness of 7mm and a height of 49mm.

KRMT33/62HH denotes nickel-cadmium batteries with discharge rates ranging from 0.5C to 3.5. High temperature series single batteries (without connectors) have diameters of 33 mm and height of 62 mm.

According to the IEC61960 standard, the two lithium batteries are identified as follows:

01) battery identification: 3 letters, followed by 5 numbers (cylindrical) or 6 (Fang Xing) numbers.

02) the first letter: the negative material of the battery. I - represents lithium ion with built-in battery; L - lithium metal electrode or lithium alloy electrode.

03) second letters: positive materials for batteries. C - cobalt based electrode; N - nickel based electrode; M - manganese based electrode; V - vanadium based electrode.

04) third letters: the shape of the battery. R - represents a cylindrical battery; L - represents a square battery.

05) number: cylindrical battery: 5 numbers respectively indicate the diameter and height of the battery. The diameter is in millimeters, and the height is 1/10 millimeters. When the diameter or height of any size is greater than or equal to 100mm, a diagonal line should be added between the two dimensions.

Square battery: the 6 numbers refer to the thickness, width and height of the battery, and the unit is millimeter. If any of the three sizes is larger than or equal to 100 mm, the diagonal line should be added between the sizes; if any of the three sizes is less than 1 mm, the letter "t" should be added before the size, which is one tenth of a millimeter.

For example, ICR 18650 represents a cylindrical secondary lithium-ion battery. The cathode material is cobalt, with a diameter of about 18 mm and a height of about 65 mm.

ICR20/1050

ICP083448 represents a square secondary lithium-ion battery. The cathode material is cobalt. Its thickness is about 8 mm, width is about 34 mm and height is about 48 mm.

ICP08/34/150 represents a square secondary lithium-ion battery. The cathode material is cobalt. Its thickness is about 8 mm, its width is about 34 mm and its height is about 150 mm.

ICPt 73448 represents a square secondary lithium-ion battery. The cathode material is cobalt. Its thickness is about 0.7 mm, width is about 34 mm and height is about 48 mm.
